Hej, VASA 691 Brothers and Sisters:

We are all .Looking forward to the crisp fall days and Nordic nostalgia, as the Nordic Fair and Lucia Festival approaches.

Please consider volunteering a couple of hours at Nordic Fair to help set up or serve the food and at the Lucia Fest to set up tables. Our work force was very small and very overworked last year at these two events.

VASA 691 offers several enrichment opportunities such as learning Swedish dances or how to make yummy Nordic culinary treasures.

You can positively impact VASA 691 and our community, Ready! Set! Go!

District 21 Updates

The Arizona District 21 Convention is scheduled for April 17-19, 2020 at the Embassy Suites in Tempe, Arizona.   Our fun-loving friends at Phoenix Lodge 677 are working hard to make the gathering an exciting experience.

District Secretary, Lillian More, has been in contact with the Grand Lodge regarding some very special guests.  All members are encouraged to attend. You will receive updates soon.  Mark your calendars.

Grand Lodge Deputies Vito Pantaleo (Sedona) and Pat Flippen (Prescott) each received the Grand Lodge Service Pin from then Grand Lodge Master Tore Kellgren at the 2018 District 21 Convention, hosted by Tucson VASA 691 in Oro Valley Community Center. Kellqren noted that Vito and Pat were holding appointed, not elected, offices and thanked them for their service.  Vito and Pat are members of Scandia Lodge No. 728. Giesla Liden of Phoenix Lodge No. 677  and the late Loretta Olson of Tucson 691 also received the pin.

Later, at the 2018 Grand Lodge Convention, Pat Flippen was one of four VASA members nationally to receive the Distinguished Service Award. Pat was the founding member of Scandia Lodge and helped found Nordic Red Rocks Lodge No. 760 in Sedona, which dissolved in 2015.

Visit the Swedish ship the Vasa that capsized and sank in the Stockholm harbor on its maiden voyage in 1628. The nearly intact mighty war ship spent 333 years on the sea bed and was salvaged in 1961. Today Vasa is the world's best preserved 17th century ship and the most visited museum in Scandinavia.
